Receiving

I have at times thought that what I had was related to my work, effort, good looks, natural charm, fine manners, etc.  At times I have refused to receive forgiveness, acceptance, peace, connections, provision, purpose, direction etc.     I have struggled to receive from God. Why would you trust Someone Who you think hates your guts?

Have you ever tried giving something to someone you valued highly to help them, only to have them refuse to receive it? How did that make you feel?

You and I are our own worst enemies.

Sometimes people have given us things only to ask for favors in return. This had taught us that nothing in life is free. Generally our boss will not pay us if we do not work, our friends will not like us if we do not make them feel wanted, the police man will not pull us over to thank us on our driving, our teacher will not come to our desk to tell us how well behaved we are, the boss will not bring us into the office to thank us for our effort, the local social club wont take kindly to us when we turn up dressed in old rags, that no employer will give us a promotion if we don't have an education, that if we don't shower regularly and put on deodorant people will not like us.

All this results in us thinking that God is the same.  We view God like we view other humans. We think He has an agenda, that He has favourites, that He rates according to our talent, looks, behavior, number of friends, how we dress,  etc. We do not trust that He would provide a house, a job, a car, a family, happiness, peace, health, acceptance, etc.

However, God is not a human.
Numbers 23:19
God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind.

God would reveal Himself to you sufficiently that you would understand that God thinks more of you than you think of you. That God desires to look after you more than you desire to look after you. That He desires to give more to you than you desire to receive. Once you have received the correct understanding  of Him you will naturally become open to receive.
