Freedom

I have had the fortunate experience to never have been imprisoned. I have also had the unfortunate experience to have spent considerable time in the prison of the mind.

What is freedom? Is it the absence of imprisonment? You and I can be bound to varying extents by negative emotion. You will never become completely free until you are free from all negative emotion. Life has no point if you will never be free.

Of ourselves we cannot become free, otherwise we would never not be free. If we cannot free ourselves, there must exist Someone Who can and wants to free us, otherwise life has no purpose.

You may not be aware to what extent you are bound by negative emotions.

John 8:33

They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”

Definition of freedom: No longer controlled by any negative emotion.

What God says about His desire  to set you and I free:

Psalm 146:7

He upholds the cause of the oppressed

and gives food to the hungry.

The Lord sets prisoners free,

Hosea 14:4

“I will heal their waywardness and love them freely, for my anger has turned away from them.

The Lord looked down from his sanctuary on high,

from heaven he viewed the earth,

20 to hear the groans of the prisoners

and release those condemned to death.”

Isaiah 61:1

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,

because the Lord has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,

to proclaim freedom for the captives

and release from darkness for the prisoners,

John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Luke 4:18

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,
