Sometimes the most religious misrepresent God the most and the least religious misrepresent God the least.
Religion could be defined as communication about God.
For communication about God to have a purpose it must be able to achieve its purpose, otherwise what is its purpose? It is my belief that the purpose of religion is to make God known. It is my belief if the religion does not help make God known, it has no purpose. It is my belief if the religion makes God harder to know, you would be better off without it.
A purpose that cannot change,
Genesis 17:1-3 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. 2 Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.”

Purpose of God for you was not fulfilled under the first agreement
. Jeremiah 11:10 They have returned to the sins of their ancestors, who refused to listen to my words. They have followed other gods to serve them. Both Israel and Judah have broken the covenant I made with their ancestors.
However God cannot change.
Joshua 23:14 “Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.
The purpose of God has not, nor will ever change.
